General Information
"Explore Finance" is a program designed for first- and second-year students who are interested in learning more about careers in finance, investing in the stock market, and building practical skills beyond their academic major. The program introduces students to foundational valuation concepts used by analyst members of the UO Investment Group (UOIG). Ideal candidates are curious about finance and related career paths and want to explore how financial skills can support their long-term goals. First- and second-year students from all majors and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The program consists of five one-hour classes held throughout the term, along with one optional short stock valuation presentation at the conclusion of the program.
Program benefits include:
- Learning about careers in finance, with guidance on career exploration, recruiting, and networking
- Professional development
- An introduction to fundamental equity valuation and portfolio management
- Understand what drives value in a company
- Invitation to attend select UOIG weekly meetings
- The opportunity to apply valuation skills through an optional stock valuation pitch
Students accepted into the program in Spring 2026 will be invited to attend select UOIG weekly meetings during the Spring term.
Participation in Explore Finance is separate from the UO Investment Group (UOIG) membership and does not guarantee or imply future membership in the UOIG.
